Gerald Thomas, Ph. D.

Gerald received his Ph. D. in political science from Colorado State University in 1998 where he specialized in public policy, international relations and environmental politics. Before founding Gerald Thomas & Associates in October 2009, he held the following positions:

• From 1998 until 2001, he was an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Purdue University where he taught environmental policy and conducted research on environmental issues and national security issues.
• From 2001 until 2004, he was Director of the Policy Analysis Enhancement Project for the John Howard Society of Canada in Kingston, Ontario where he trained twelve John Howard Staff to conduct analyses of Canada's criminal justice policies and published two edited volumes on Canada's drug policy.
• From 2004 until 2007, he was a Senior Policy Analyst for the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) in Ottawa, Ontario where he was involved in a wide-variety of projects involving Canadian substance abuse policy including the development of Canada's first National Alcohol Strategy.
• From 2005 to 2006, he was a part-time Professor of Sociology at the University of Ottawa where he taught an undergraduate course on science, technology and society.
• From 2007 until 2009, he was a Senior Policy Analyst at the Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia in Vancouver where he was involved in a variety of research projects involving addictions policy including serving as the principle author of a major report on alcohol policy by the BC Provincial Health Officer.
• From 2008-2009, he was a part-time Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia where he taught an undergraduate course on alternative and complementary medicine.
• He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Victoria.
